As with many European cities, Port is an old city with historical heritage but which, in the last few decades, has undergone a lot of modernisation.
It has a large Metro networks which covers the Centre, but also the suburbs such as Senhora da Hora or Maia. Its historical centre has been declared "Patrimonio de la Humanidad" by UNESCO. Other tourist attractions are the Torre de los Clerigos, built by Nicolau Nasoni, the Casa de la Musica y la Fundacion Serralves dedicated to contemporary art and the most visited museum in Portugal.
