Krk is the largest Croatian island, situated in the North Adriatic, 25 km from Rijeka. Čižići, well-known for the pleasant climate, the clear sea and the healing mud, is certainly one of Krk's treasures you just have to experience. Soline bay is often referred to as a phenomenon, since all along the beach the sea is less than a meter deep.
The Island of Krk is abundant with beautiful beaches, some of which are proud to have been awarded the Blue Flag.
In the northern part of the municipality Dobrinj, in Soline bay, lies the small town and port Čižići. The beach in Čižići is mostly sandy, only partially stony, and dense and beautiful greenery adorns it along its entire length. Soline bay is often referred to as a phenomenon, since all along the beach the sea is less than a meter deep. This makes the sea in Soline bay warm and suitable for bathing for almost half a year.
Near Čižići lies the beach Meline, known for its healing mud. The mud helps in curing rheumatism and is good for the skin. This is why in the summer one can see many people whose bodies are almost completely covered with mud.
Only a few kilometers away from Čižići lies one of the most visited caves in Croatia, the cave Biserujka. Although it is only 110 meters long, it is richly decorated – with stalactites, stalagmites and columns made of calcite.
The bottom of the cave is 30 meters above sea level, while the lowest point is at -13 meters. Bones of the cave bear were found in the cave, and many endemic life forms live here. Biserujka is part of the National Ecological Network, which aims to preserve the endemic species and the habitat type “Karst caves”.
Above the bay lies the medieval castle Dobrinj, where cultural attractions, as well as galleries and museums that are worth seeing, can be found.
