Villa Maremma lies within the private family estate of the Marchesi Antinori family, a natural reserve which stretches along Tuscany's most unspoilt coast. The villa lies in a group of houses which are all let by the year. It is a two storied building surrounded by a large private garden. The beach is at a distance of 1 km, and can be reached by car, by bycicle or on foot.
All ground floor rooms have French windows onto the garden. Very high ceilings, large windows and big rooms give the house light and space. This sensation is underlined by the light colours used for the decoration of the villa. The upper floor has 5 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. There are three double rooms and two twin bedrooms.
On the beach, guests of Villa Maremma have an awning for shade, with 6 sunbeds or deckchairs. The awning is placed at the bottom of the beach, close to the water. Higher up, against the dunes, guests have a private cabana whith a table and benches in the shade. The cabana is ideal for a pick-nick and to leave your swimming gear when you are not at the beach.
One enters the estate by a coded gate, within the property speed is limited to 30 km/h. It is rare, but can happen, that the wind blows towards the sea. In this case the four lane road that runs along the coast can be heard at the back of the house.
Wine connoisseurs among you will recognize the name Antinori, one of the oldest and most successful wine-making dynasties in the world. Alone in Tuscany and Umbria the Antinoris own 10 estates producing top wines.
This estate however has a special place in the heart of the family. It is the private summer retreat of the family. Up to now the property has been accessible to only a handful of privileged insiders who have rented houses all year long. Now – for the first time – the Villa Maremma on the estate is available for weekly rentals through Hidden Italy.
The gated property stretches along 4 km (2,5 miles) of untouched, private coastline, a very rare thing in Italy.
The property is kept like a vast private natural park, and abounds in wild life such as deer, hares, wild boar, porcupines as well as (name of birds) which you will probably come upon as you drive or cycle along the paths which lead from the villa to the sea. The wide beach is of sand, behind which lies a magical strip of mediterranean macchia and a pine grove.
