Host's Directions

Take the highway A2 from Ljubljana. Drive for about 19 km (about 15 minutes) and take the exit toward Grosuplje. Go straight on through three roundabouts. Turn right at the next major intersection (direction Turjak). Go straight on for about 500 m. Turn right over the bridge. Go straight on for about 4 km till you reach Ponova vas. On the left side of the road, there is a shop called Ponovka. I'll be waiting for you and guide you from there...

1. LJUBLJANA + TABORSKA CAVE (only 15 minutes from the house) All activities will take place in a very relaxing atmosphere. On the tour of Ljubljana, we will go in the morning. The boat will take you to the Ljubljanica - indulge in coffee or tea on the Skyscraper and see other sights in Ljubljana (Presernov trg, Križanke...) - I'll take you wherever you want. Important to repeat all IN A relaxing atmosphere .... After completing the tour of Ljubljana we drive to the fairytale house, take all the necessary gear to view the cave Taborska jama (I recommend warm clothes). After that the day will be complete. Informations about the Cave Taborska Jama: Županova Jama (Mayor's Cave) are two caves with three names. The huge cavern in the rock below the church Tabor was known for many centuries. It was called Ledenica Jama (Ice Cave), because it is very cold and contains ice almost the whole year. The reason is its geometry, as it is going down from the entrance about 70m with no lower exit, the cold air flows into the cave in winter, but can not get out in summer. This is a typical cold trap. This cave was mentioned by JOHANN WEICHARD VON VALVASOR in his book Die Ehre Deß Hertzogthums Crain. JOSIP PERME, the mayor (županu) of the next village, was the first who discovered a new part of the cave. There was a small hole above the well known ice cave, which he widened. He then climbed down a rope ladder into a small cave. There were some speleothems, and the cave was much warmer than the ice cave. He explored a passage which became much wider, forming rather huge chambers with many speleothems. He discovered two chambers, today known as Permetova dvorana (Perme's Chamber) and Velika dvorana (Big Hall), which were still full of cave clay at this time. Soon he invited a group of cave explorers from Ljubljana, who explored and surveyed the cave. They added it to the cave register with the name Županov Perme Jama (Mayor Perme's Cave). Then he forced the development of the cave, as he wanted to open it to the public. He founded a cave development association and started to build paths, ladders and light into the cave. He financed the whole development himself, and opened the cave to the public the following year. At this time visitors still had to climb down the entrance pit. But this was very uncomfortable and dangerous. The connection to the nearby ice cave was suggested, and soon a fissure in the right direction was detected. In an imense work, which took Perme and his companions seven years, they constructed a mostly artificial connetion to the ice cave. Now the entrance through ice cave was possible, which was much more comfortable and also included the ice cave into the cave tour. In 1937 Perme and his sons discovered another chamber. They dubbed it Matjaževo dvorano (Matjaž's Hall) as three huge flowstone pillars looked like Matjaž's throne from a local legend.

2. LAKE BLED Very famous attraction is Lake Bled. The beautiful nature and great cakes will be an unforgettable experience. We also went to Bled Castle, Bled .... Castle Bled+ticket view of Lake Bled special local cake + coffee or tea

3. POSTONJSKA CAVE + PREDJAMA CASTLE Very famous attraction is Postonjska CAVE. About the Cave A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, the astonishing diversity of Karst features as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors, which has already reached 34 million in 200 years. Postojna Cave is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world's largest karst monuments. Many books and other contributions have been written about Postojna Cave; speaking of tourist guides regarding the cave itself, almost 100 have been produced over 200 years. + Predjama Castle The Predjama Castle reigns over the surrounding area, perched high up in a vertical cliff, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. It is an interesting and romantic sight throughout the year: in the spring and the summer its surroundings are abundant with blossoms and flowers, in the autumn it is clad in the colours of surrounding forests and it is at its most enchanting in the winter when the surrounding area is covered in snow. It was referred to in writing for the first time in 1202.

4. SKIING (WINTER TIME) In the winter I organize skiing in the nearby mountains. (I am a ski licensed instructor Alps skiing). Good prices & a lot of fun.

5. SLOVENIAN COAST Every kilometer of the Slovene coast is a new surprise. Here is a natural reserve with a rich fund of marl and sandstone and the unique, eighty-meter Strunjan cliff, the highest flysch wall on the Adriatic coast. Here are the Sečovlje saltworks, first mentioned in the 13th century, and the nearby is a sanctuary for more than 150 bird species. Here the towns of Piran, Izola, and Koper draw visitors with their medieval cores, while Portorož, though mentioned as early as 1251, offers numerous modern hotels with congress halls, a fully equipped marina, a sport airport, thermal baths, a casino, and a varied offer of summer cultural, entertainment, and sport events.

6. PARTY LJUBLJANA : As an experienced entertainer. I can take you to all the best entertainment in the city of Ljubljana. If you like rock n roll you have found the right person, I have 15 years of musical experience, I performed in a very well-known band in Slovenia called DDV & The Drinkers (CHECK IT OUT ON THE INTERNET!!) . Besides good entertainment, I can take you to great bars in Ljubljana. You will sure to have a great time. By : Makius on August : 2014 I spent two weeks with family (and dog!) in the woodenhouse, and the accommodation was fully up to what we were looking for! A nice, quiet location, surrounded by fields and forests we enjoyed walking in, but only 5 minutes from the highway and 15 from Ljubljana! Maki was a really great and hearty host, making us feel welcome and comfortable; he was always available and happy to be so, gave us numerous advices and ideas on what we could do in Slovenia, introduced us to traditional food and even came with us for two day-trips, guiding us through Ljubljana or getting wet with us in an epic kayak adventure! ;-) Maki's family was great all the same and got us to know slovenian hospitality, even bringing us fresh vegetables from their own garden and homemade fine liquors - which we were happy to bring back with us to France! To sum up: great hosts, great location, great vacation!

By : Analise on August : 2014 Maki met us at a local market to escort us directly to the house and welcomed us with a friendly smile and the traditional Slovenian greeting of hospitality. Aka a shot of liquor. The house was exactly as described and it was a nice cozy break from the city. Nature abounds in this fairy tale location and we respected it. The wifi was very fast and there was plenty of room for 6 travelers. The best view is from the desk in the loft. We only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed longer. The next morning Maki met us at a local cafe and bought us all cafés while we talked about our American culture and his Slovenian culture. He was wonderful and very very Overall good experience and fun break during our road trip! Thank you Maki!
By : Paul on July : 2014 Nice wooden house on the edge of a small forest in the rolling countryside. Do not expect luxury here, but plenty of space. Suitable starting point for hiking and cycling. The central location is also ideal for trips to Ljubljana and actually all parts of Slovenia. Host Maki is very kind and helpful and speaks excellent English. The house belongs to his mother, who surprised us with a huge Apfelstrudel.

The house is perfect for people who want to stay directly in the nature. It has a nice, big garden in which you can sit outside and make fire. If you want to stay with a group of ten people it might be a little bit small but it is possible. One thing to think of- Maki forgot to tell us before our stay about the fact of cleaning.. Anyway- we had a great stay. Thanks for all!

Maki's mum made us all feel so welcome and had already stocked the fridge and cupboards with food and drink! Slovenia is a beautiful country and the people are all so friendly. By : Jim on July : 2013 We appreciated the good clean air and excellent views from the house. Even better was the hospitality shown from the hosts family and a nice welcoming hamper. We had some fun playing badminton in the spacious yard. Great stay.
By : Elena on March : 2013 I spent two wonderful nights at this apartment with a group of friends. We did have some significant trouble getting to the apartment, but that was because our bus from Trieste to Ljubljana unexpectedly left 40 minutes late. We couldn't meet Maki's mother in Grosuplje because it was too late, and we ended up in two taxis, very lost. We finally found his mother and had to walk the rest of the way to the house since the mud on the dirt road was so bad. Once we did get to the house though (and after we had to go back to dig out one of the taxis that had gotten stuck in the mud), we had a great time. The weather was very bad with fog and rain, but the stove kept us warm and cozy. Wonderful, very quirky place; felt lived-in and rustic in a good way. Maki's mother and brother were both very helpful, and the breakfast food they left was really good. Internet very slow, but that's kinda part of the charm. Would definitely recommend.
By : Augusto on March : 2013 The house is wonderfully located on the top of a little hill in a small town near Ljubljana, quiet day and night and close to a market where you can buy food and other things you may need. Bob the stove was a reliable friend to keep us warm in these late March cold days (snowy too!). Maki and his mother are very friendly and gave us all the instructions about the house and amenities in the region. It was a very nice experience, thank you for all!
By : Ian on January : 2013 I didn't meet Maki because he was away skiing, however I completely agree with Sarah and Kathy. His family (and their families) are smiley, happy, lovely people, and they really made me feel at home in Slovenia. Maki's brother Klemen was extremely helpful, not just when I arrived, but for the whole week and he even took me for a 'spa day' in Novo Mesto with papa and his wife and kid. The house is exactly what I hoped for. It's a 20 minute drive from the center of Ljubljana, and stands alone in a field, on a hill and near a small forest. This means you can be partying or exploring Ljubljana one day, and completely alone in the countryside the next. Bob and Lisa (the fire and water boiler) also kept me warm and clean even though it was -8 in the evenings. In fact, I miss the sound of the fire now I'm back in a 'normal' house. So, Hvala Lepa to the Maki family (and to Maki) and I highly recommend a visit to the fairytalewoodenhouse if you're in Slovenia. I hope I will visit again soon.
By : Sarah & Kathy on December : 2012 Maki & his family were wonderful. Smily, Happy, lovely people, who really made us feel apart of their family. We had a fantastic time & would recommend it to anyone. The cottage is rustic & is somewhat remote (ish) if you don't have a car (which we didn't). Its approximately a 40 minute walk into Grosuplje if you want to catch the train/bus to/from Ljubljana. The little town is called Ponova Vas and it has a small grocery store that you can buy all you need from. There is good coffee a relatively short walk away from the cottage too, if you turn right out of the driveway (downhill the whole way), follow to the end, quick right, then left (dogleg) then follow to the bottom and you should be able to see Marincic (email hidden) sign to your right. When you walk in locals may stare at you as though you're from outer space but the coffee is good! :) There is an old church within 4kms walking distance and the Taborska (Zupernova Yama) Cave is a short distance after that, which we would recommend. If Maki isn't around his mother is always eager to help, Helena, she doesn't speak a lot of english, however she does speak a small amount of Deutsch/German (about the same as us!) and we managed to communicate well enough. We had great fun with "Bob" & "Lisa" :P They helped to keep us warm & clean! We had the cottage to ourselves of course, however Maki & family were in constant contact to make sure all was well.
