La Digue
The weather
Most important to most tourists is the weather. Luckily we are located close to the equator so temperatures vary only from 24 to 32 degrees Celcius throughout the year and there is lot of sun here. However, as our climate is classified as tropical rain forest there is rainfalls, too. They can be very heavy but normally only last for 1 hour more or less. The Seychelles don't have a sunshine guarantee. If you are happy with that like we are you wont be disappointed when visiting this archipelago.
Things to do
La Digue has lots of attractions for you to visit or experience. First of all there are those gorgeous beaches which you might already heard of or seen them on calendars or beaches top lists. Visit famous Anse Source d'Argent, do a hike to Anse Cocos via the south beaches or ask for a guide to get to secret Anse Marron. Visit our Gallery page to see photos of those beaches!
Hiking
Even though La Digue is a very small island (10 km2 only) hiking is a rewarding activity. Stunning views and places not many tourists see can be reached by foot. Be sure to take plenty of water with you. We recommend having a local guide for hiking to remote locations such as Nid d'aigle (Eagle's Nest), Anse Marron, or Anse Caiman. Besides of a safe trip local guides can provide useful and interesting information on flora and fauna. We are happy to organize a guide for your hiking experience!
Snorkeling and Diving
A must-do on the Seychelles is diving or at least snorkeling. Our tropical clear blue waters offer nice spots to encounter sea turtles, "Nemo"s and his friends, boxfishes, parrotfishes, napoleons, eagle rays, stingrays, moray eels, octopus, and even reef sharks (no worries, they are harmless).
We have PADI "Azzurra Diving Center" just around the corner.
Snorkeling is recommended on the western part of La Digue as strong currents are present in the other parts, especially the south. Best spots for snorkeling are Anse Sévère (intact corals, nice rock formations) and the zone "Anse La Reunion - Anse Union - Anse Source d'Argent" which normally has calm and shallow water because of the waves breaking on the distant edge of the reef.
Excursions
How about a full day snorkeling trip with a good barbecue? Discovering the neighbouring islands or fishing are another activities which we would be happy to organize for you.
Things to know (Tips)
As mentioned before the Seychelles have tropical climate. Weather can change very fast and the forecast is not very reliable in tropical regions. Rain is important to us and all lifeforms on the Seychelles.
In long periods without rain water shortages might be present. Unlike the bigger hotels on the island unfortunately we do not have special water resources. We kindly ask you to save water whenever possible.
Like in every tropical region geckos and mosquitoes are present. Don't be afraid of the geckos - they are your friend and won't harm you in any way. Especially after rain and on the beach when the sun sets there are lots of mosquitoes. Use mosquito repellent if available. Swiss-made Anti-Brumm® turned out to be very efficient. Another good protection are mosquito coils which are available in the local shops or even online. If you don't mind the noise of a fan on maximum power putting these on will prevent mosquitoes from reaching you at all when in your room.
If you want or need to have mobile data connection with your mobile device you can buy a prepaid sim card from a local store on La Digue. 3G connection is available in the two La Digue villages La Passe and La Reunion but might be slow in peak times.
